Seeking a Tax Preparer?
Selecting a Tax Preparer
Whether you choose us or another business to do your tax returns, it’s important to choose a tax preparer you can trust. Here are a few tips to help you select a tax preparer:
You don’t have to choose the first tax preparer you meet. If you don’t feel comfortable with the information the tax preparer has given you, you can ask for your tax documents to be returned and go somewhere else. Any legitimate tax preparer will return your documents and understand.
Don’t be fooled by tax preparers who “guarantee” inflated refunds. It’s more important than ever to have a trusted tax preparer as the IRS is cracking down on inflated refund scams and it’s for good reason - according to the IRS, these tax schemes have resulted in millions of dollars in damages for not only taxpayers but for the government.
Remember the old adage, “if it’s too good to be true…?” This is especially important when reviewing your tax return. If you don’t understand something on your tax return or your refund seems quite a bit higher than what you reasonably expect, then your tax preparer should be able to explain it.
Have no idea how to find a tax preparer? Use the IRS. The IRS has a directory of tax preparers in all areas. Whether you need a CPA, EA, or enrolled tax preparer, you can find what you need on the IRS website.
